So far I've been super-positive , but I'll say all the mean things I have to say right now so I can get them out of the way.

- When Tom Price and Kai Owen canceled, they announced some new guests. Cush Jumbo? Yay! But who the hell is this Virginia Hey woman and why is she being allowed to flog her New Age meditation sessions at $100 a pop? The fact that it's dressed up with a bunch of "Higher Consciousness" frills and she uses Buddhism to legitimize it on her web page... that really irritates me. "These meditations are for everybody! They are very simple & deeply relaxing with no baffling techniques or terminology." They're for everybody who has $100, more like it, you hippy-dippy  huckster.

- Larry Niven being on a panel. I think he's a great writer and one of the giants of science fiction. My favorite book of his is probably "The Integral Trees." Being a good writer doesn't have any necessary correlation to being a good person, of course... he's also a racist wacko wingnut. He was part of a loosely DHS-sponsored group of science fiction writers called SIGMA and at a conference in 2008 came up with this gem to "help save money":

Niven said a good way to help hospitals stem financial losses is to spread rumors in Spanish within the Latino community that emergency rooms are killing patients in order to harvest their organs for transplants. "The problem [of hospitals going broke] is hugely exaggerated by illegal aliens who aren’t going to pay for anything anyway," Niven said.

The widest discussion about that was probably here at boingboing.net.

HOWEVER. I was just about to remark how interesting it might be that he was on a panel with "Jose Molina" and "Javier Grillo-Marxuach" but when I checked the schedule, he's not on there anymore, and he's not listed on the main page. So I guess he canceled.

- The house band, "Tanuki Suit Riot." Sounds like a weeaboo name. A quick Google search confirmed my suspicions. What are they doing playing anime music at a Doctor Who convention? Pretty much any crappy cover band would sound more appealing. It's very odd.

Other than those three things, one of which is not even a factor anymore, I'm totally pumped.
