[livejournal.com profile] neo_prodigy, back after an extended absence, has been posting some awesome stuff. First, a comedy piece (see if you can spot the Jack reference!) that will have you in stitches if you've read comic books at any point over the last 20 years or so. My favorite part was actually the Sub-Mariner stuff. I haven't read Marvel for a while, but if I ship any couple at all, anywhere, it's Namor/Sue Storm. They've only had UST for what, five decades? "How you gonna promise a woman the seven seas and you trying to avoid paying child support." HAHAHAHA, oh that just killed me.

Then, a serious post about leaving the "pro-life" mentality, and a tribute to creator Dwayne McDuffie. I didn't know much about him before, but I feel both saddened and informed now.

[livejournal.com profile] canaana just now posted an awesome sort-of-Jack/Gwen fic that I'd read earlier (and voted for) at [livejournal.com profile] kink_las.  It falls into the category of something I've noticed has become a DW/TW genre-unto-itself: the bittersweet roleplaying fic, bitter because the sex is mixed with loss and grief, sweet because all participants are engaged in it knowingly and playfully. One of my favorite examples is a Jack/Belle du Jour fic at the kinkmeme where he hires her to roleplay Rose. But I can think of many examples of the type. In fact, I'm in the middle of writing one myself, though I don't know if I'll finish it or not, I love the genre so much.  Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] canaana's fic might be uniquely controversial, but I didn't see it as such. At all. It's awesome and incredibly sweet.

I also wanted to point out some fantastic ficlets that [livejournal.com profile] heddychaa  wrote just before we all headed off to the con: DW Valentine's Sweets and the TW flavor here. The one she wrote for my prompt was superfunny but my favorite was the M/M/M ghost sex story. It was absolutely gorgeous and has imagery that just slams you.

And then I might as well just re-rec everything that's been posted at [livejournal.com profile] tw_spotlight over the last couple weeks, including a great little Jack/Estelle I wouldn't have noticed because I think it might have been Dreamwidth-only.

I wanted to plug the Rally to Save the American Dream events that are going on all over the country this Saturday. My family and I are planning to go the one in Georgia. There's an event finder at the above link.

In Wisconsin and around our country, the American Dream is under fierce attack. Instead of creating jobs, Republicans are giving tax breaks to corporations and the very rich—and then cutting funding for education, police, emergency response, and vital human services.

On Saturday, February 26, at noon local time, we are organizing rallies in front of every statehouse and in every major city to stand in solidarity with the people of Wisconsin. We demand an end to the attacks on worker's rights and public services across the country. We demand investment, to create decent jobs for the millions of people who desperately want to work. And we demand that the rich and powerful pay their fair share.

I still need to work on editing my comment on colorblind character writing.

And in less nuanced commentary, TW/DW fan correspondent @thetimekill (www.thetimekill.org) is a horrible person (warning for extreme racism). I had the feeling before that he was some closet BNP-type but that tweet I capped was beyond nauseating... it uses the language of my favorite show to support the same kind of mentality that led other kids to scream "GO BACK TO CHINA" at me all through school. And it also disgusts me on behalf of the many Somalian-Americans I know. When I think of them, I don't think of pirates, I think of people like my son's little friends and their moms and dads and the assistant soccer coach and how hard they all work to maintain their dignity as refugee arrivals. Anyway, I definitely wanted to mention TheTimeKill to a larger audience (I've already done it directly on Twitter) but I don't really want to talk about it further because what's there to say, really.

Lastly, I've never seen any Brigadier episodes but I'm sorry to hear he is gone and he sounds like a wonderful actor and very interesting person :-(
